The redevelopment of Avondale Estates’ 90-year-old Willis Park appears to be moving forward with the city commission last week approving both contractor Integrated Construction and playground vendor Game Time for the project. A construction schedule hasn’t been set, though City Manager Clai Brown said earlier this year that work may begin in September with a tentative grand opening in April 2016. Brown said this week that an actual budget hasn’t been set either, though the estimated costs are $600,000 to $675,000. Redevelopment of the 2.7-acre park includes a new pavilion, an asphalt path and separate playgrounds for 2- to 5-year-olds and 5- to 12-year-olds.
