The Cherokee County man found dead in a kiddie pool died from accidentally drowning, the sheriff's office said Thursday.

Dominic Saverino Pedante, 53, was found Sunday morning in the pool, steps away from he parked his vehicle on the driveway of his home in the Eagle Watch subdivision, Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators believe Pedante may have gotten out of his vehicle and tripped, landing in about 6 inches of water in the pool, Baker said. The door to the vehicle was still open when Pedante was found in the pool, leading police to believe the man may have had a medical emergency before he fell.

Toxicology tests were also done, but those results are not yet complete. Even without those results, the medical examiner ruled the cause of death to be drowning, Baker said.

A man at Pedante's home, near Woodstock, declined to discuss Pedante's death when reached by phone Monday afternoon, citing the family's privacy.

Pedante, a Delaware native, is survived by a daughter, son, his father, two sisters and a brother, according to his obituary. A memorial service is planned for Thursday afternoon at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors in Roswell.
