The Austell City Council agreed Monday to spend $23,000 for updates to its Public Safety and Community Affairs departments.

From the contingency fund, $14,500 will be spent to replace the Public Safety computer server.

Shared by the police and fire departments, the present server has not been working well over the last six months, Fire Chief Tim Williams said.

Community Affairs will receive $6,000 to make the department more secure and $2,500 for new furniture.
