Austell councilwoman dies after brief illness
The American flag is flying at half-staff in Austell in memory of Austell Ward 4 Councilwoman Virginia A. Reagan who died Friday after a brief illness.
Reagan, 79, had served on the council since 1995.
However, she did not qualify to run this year.
Reagan’s seat will be filled by Sandra Simpson Leverette, the only qualifier for Ward 4, unless there is a write-in candidate by 5 p.m. Wednesday to run on the Nov. 3 ballot.
“She was a true servant to her constituents, graciously and humbly caring for the residents within her ward. In addition, she was very instrumental with her many contributions to the city of Austell throughout the years,” city spokesman Duane R. Demeritt wrote on the city’s Facebook page at
