UPDATE: Meehan's was re-inspected Monday and received a 93/A. The report noted two new violations: failure to discard food stored in a cooler past seven days, and failure to label food once removed from the original container.

ORIGINAL STORY (published July 26): An Irish restaurant in Atlantic Station failed a recent health inspection, Fulton County records show.

Meehan's Public House scored a 44/U following the Friday evaluation. The chain also has locations in Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Vinings and downtown Atlanta.

Scores below 70 are considered failing. The Atlantic Station restaurant’s prior score from November was a 99/A.

According to the recent report, there was "heavy fruit fly activity in the main storage room."

Officials also reported observing employees touching ready-to-eat food, including sandwich bread and beverage garnishes, with bare hands.

A spokeswoman said Meehan’s is “humbled” by the score.

“We appreciate the hard work and efforts from the Fulton County Health Department,” she said in an email Wednesday. “We have been working around the clock since the inspection to ensure that we have addressed all of the opportunities listed.”

The restaurant has made personnel changes and “brought in an additional kitchen professional to assist,” the spokeswoman said, adding that the location is ready for reinspection.

Follow-up inspections are generally completed within 10 days of the original evaluation.
