After barely cracking the 40-degree mark over the weekend and dipping into the 20s early Monday, metro Atlanta temperatures will rebound briefly into the 60s, forecasters said.
But along with that warm-up Tuesday comes a good chance of rain.
Channel 2 Actions News meteorologist David Chandley said as much as half an inch of rain will fall in the area Tuesday, likely in the afternoon and it could affect rush hour. The rain is not expected to be accompanied by storms, however.
The low early Tuesday will be in the mid-40s, quite a bit warmer than recent mornings. The afternoon high is expected to be 62. That will feel balmy compared to Monday’s lows, which ranged from 24 degrees in Alpharetta and Dallas and 25 in Marietta and Peachtree City to 29 at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Brisk winds dropped the wind chill into the mid-teens at times before daybreak Monday.
Atlanta even recorded a trace of snow Sunday, the first time that has ever happened on a March 3.
Wednesday will be windy and colder, with highs in the mid-40s after morning lows in the low 30s, but Thursday and Friday should be sunny and warmer, with highs in the mid-50s Thursday and low 60s Friday and lows remaining in the 30s.
