A few spotty showers moved through the metro Atlanta area Thursday, but they should clear up overnight, setting up a nice Friday and a lovely weekend.

The area picked up 0.29 inches of rain Thursday, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said. The heaviest showers were up the Ga. 400 corridor into Dawson County and into the northeast Georgia mountains, he said.

A few light showers were expected early in the evening before clearing up overnight, he said.

Sunshine is expected Friday through Sunday, with clear, cool mornings and warm afternoons, Burns said.

The National Weather Service said the primary hazards from any severe storms Thursday across north and central Georgia would be quarter-sized hail and damaging winds.

"The severe storm threat will greatly diminish across north Georgia by 9 p.m.," the Weather Service said.
