Thunderstorms gave most of metro Atlanta some much-needed rain Monday morning.
The rain, punctuated by a few lightning strikes, swept in from the northwest ahead of a cold front around 4 a.m.; by lunchtime the sun was beginning to break through the clouds.
A sampling of rainfall totals around the metro area included .11 inch at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, .11 in Chamblee, .12 in Mableton and .20 in Marietta and Peachtree City.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said winds will be brisk Monday afternoon, with gusts of 20 to 25 mph.
Minton’s forecast for the rest of the work week calls for sunny skies Tuesday and Wednesday, with a 30 percent chance of rain on Thursday. Highs through the period will be in the 70s, with overnight lows in the upper 40s to mid-50s.
Friday will be sunny and a little cooler, with highs only in the upper 60s and lows in the upper 40s.
