A few light showers swept across parts of metro Atlanta before daybreak Tuesday, as heavier rain — and a few thunderstorms — moved through Alabama toward Georgia.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said the rain was mostly along and south of I-20 east of Atlanta before 6 a.m.

A line of “pretty intense” thunderstorms was still back in Alabama before daybreak, and was expected to make its way into Georgia later in the morning. The storms, however, were weakening as they moved to the east, Minton said.

Predawn temperatures were much milder than Monday’s readings in the 20s and 30s. At 6 a.m., it was 46 degrees in Peachtree City, 51 at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and 52 in Dunwoody.

Minton said there’s an 80 percent chance of rain on Tuesday, with the rain expected to end by early afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 50s.

Minton’s extended forecast calls for sunny skies the rest of the week, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s.
