The showers and thunderstorms that soaked the morning rush hour Thursday moved out as quickly as they arrived.

At 8 a.m., weather radar showed the rain stretching from near Lake Hartwell through Athens to just north of Macon.

Rainfall totals with the fast-moving system were generally around a tenth of an inch, ranging from .08 inch in Chamblee and .09 inch in downtown Atlanta and Marietta to .19 inch in Dallas and Peachtree City.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist David Chandley said skies should be clearing during the afternoon Thursday, when highs will be in the low 70s.

Friday will be sunny and mild, with morning lows around 50 degrees and afternoon readings again in the low 70s.

Chandley’s weekend forecast calls for sunny skies, with highs in the low 70s on Saturday and mid-70s on Sunday and lows in the upper 40s.
