Thunderstorms brought vivid lightning, strong winds and hail across metro Atlanta Sunday night and another round of severe weather is possible on Monday.
Heavy rain from Sunday's storms apparently contributed to a wreck in south Fulton County that left two people dead.
The National Weather Service said storms expected to develop Monday afternoon could become severe, particularly between 2 and 10 p.m.
The Weather Service said hail 1 inch in diameter was reported near Kennesaw just before 8 p.m. Hail was also reported in Marietta, Powder Springs, Lithia Springs and Jasper.
A husband and wife from LaGrange were killed in a wreck on I-85 near the Fayetteville Road overpass when their GMC Envoy hydroplaned in heavy rain and struck a pole. Demond Sterling Calhoun, 43, and Constance Favors Calhoun, 28, died; another passenger is in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.
In Roswell, crews were working to clear a tree blown down along Houze Road.
Another tree fell on a home off Shallowford Road in Cobb County, and two homes in the Marietta area were struck by lightning, but no injuries were reported.
The risk of storms will continue through mid-week, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.
Nitz is predicting a 40 percent chance of rain on Monday, increasing to 60 percent on Tuesday.
Highs will be in the low 80s, with lows in the mid-60s.
The extended forecast is for a 40 percent chance of rain on Wednesday, followed by sunny skies on Thursday and Friday, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s and60s.
