Under Secretary of State for Management Patrick F. Kennedy will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony 10 a.m. Monday to mark the official opening of the Atlanta Passport Agency. Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the office is located in the heart of downtown at 230 Peachtree Street NW, convenient to public transportation and a short drive from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
The new agency staff of 49 government employees and contractors will serve customers at 15 public counters. Previously, local residents with urgent travel plans had to drive more than eight hours to the New Orleans Passport Agency or more than 10 hours to passport agencies in Miami or Washington, D.C.
U.S. citizens who have emergencies or who plan to travel within 14 days may apply in person at the Atlanta Passport Agency, where passport books will be issued on site. Customers may also obtain additional visa pages on an expedited basis. Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling 1-877-487-2778 or TDD/TTY: 1-888-874-7793.
