An Atlanta City Council committee has recommended that the city donate 45 surplus, out-of-warranty computers to two programs that offer aerospace and technology instruction to local students.

An ordinance, approved recently by the Finance/Executive Committee, would allow 40 computers to be donated to the new Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy in the Washington Cluster of the Atlanta Public Schools and 5 computers, given to The Remarkable Youth Project in Council District 5.

The Tuskegee program offers a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program focused on aerospace to students in kindergarten through 5th grade, according to the ordinance. Remarkable Youth is a 501(c)3 non-profit that provides skills training and educational programming in digital media arts technology to young people.

The recipients would be responsible for all maintenance, upgrades and liability for the machines.
