Atlanta is line for up to $7.8 million in federal funds to pay for bicycle and pedestrian improvements and other work to make certain streets safer and more inviting.

An ordinance on this week’s Utilities Committee agenda, sponsored by City Council Member C.T. Martin, would authorize the mayor’s office to accept the Federal Transit Administration grant.

The money would pay for bicycle and pedestrian improvements on Juniper Street; pedestrian mobility and safety work in Midtown and on Spring Street/U.S. 19; and retrofitting Martin Luther King Jr. Drive as a “Complete Street” for pedestrians, cyclists and transit as well as motor vehicles.
