A 20-year-old Atlanta man was arrested Friday after firing gunshots to celebrate.
Manvel A. Britton was arrested on Laurel Avenue after a 911 caller reported shots fired, Sgt. Curtis Davenport with Atlanta police said. In addition to having a .357-magnum revolver, Britton also possessed suspected cocaine, Davenport said.
Britton was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a weapon near a public roadway, as well as a drug possession charge, police said.
Last year, 4-year-old Marquel Peters was sitting in a DeKalb County church when he was killed by celebratory gunfire. No one has been arrested in connection with his death.
Marquel's death prompted area law enforcement agencies and community members to discourage using gunfire to celebrate holidays.
