Atlanta plans to amend the Intergovernmental Grant Fund portion of the city budget in anticipation of $950,000 in state reimbursements for after-school hot meals served at Mayor’s Centers of Hope locations.
The ordinance also authorizes the mayor’s office to renew its agreement with Georgia Express Meals Inc. to provide hot meals and snacks to children enrolled in the Afterschool Meal Program.
The program provides about 1,400 meals and snacks a day to students, with the aim of ensuring that children receive a balanced, nutritious meal in accordance with USDA guidelines, according to the ordinance. The state’s Bright from the Start Child and Adult Care Food Program reimburses the city for its costs.
The City Council accepted the ordinance on first reading Monday and referred it to the Community Development/Human Resources Committee.
