Atlanta police officers were involved in a pair of accidents Friday.

One officer was injured early Friday when he wrecked his cruiser trying to avoid a puppy that ran into the road.

The crash happened on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard in northeast Atlanta.

Atlanta police Capt. Van Hobbs told Channel 2 Action News that after the officer swerved to miss the pit bull puppy, his car left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was in stable condition.

Friday night, a police officer struck a water sampling station, said Janet Ward, spokeswoman for the city's Department of Watershed Management.

The incident happened at Constitution and Jonesboro roads around 9 p.m., APD spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said.

The officer was not injured, Jones said.

A sampling station is used to make sure the water main is clear, Ward said. Water service was not impacted by the accident, she said.
