The city of Atlanta will pay four southeast Atlanta residents nearly a half-million dollars to buy one home and make repairs to a second to settle litigation arising from a flood about four years ago.
The case was brought in Fulton County State Court by Andrew, Zany and Yoshico Dunlap of 483 Monument Ave., and by Francisco Fernandez of 476 Monument. Their homes were damaged in a July 9, 2012 flood, and they contended the city had not adequately maintained their neighborhood’s storm water drainage system.
Atlanta will pay $480,000 to settle their claims – buying the house at 483 Monument, making repairs at 476 Monument, and paying attorney’s fees to Kopelman Sitton Law Group, representing the plaintiffs.
The City Council Public Safety & Legal Administration Committee recently approved the resolution settling the suit. It goes before the full Council on July 5.
