The son of a slain Newton County man who is also the nephew of a woman killed with him was arrested Saturday and charged in both their deaths, authorities said.

Brawney Jarvis McCullough, 31, of Villa Rica was charged with two counts of murder in the killing of his father, Eugene McCullough, and his aunt, Peggy Molden, on Feb. 7. The sheriff’s office also arrested an alleged accomplice, Jonathan Michael Henderson, 28, of Villa Rica, who was also charged with two counts of murder.

Eugene McCollough, 56, and Molden, 66, were found dead after sheriff’s deputies and paramedics responded to a medical alert triggered around 9:30 a.m. at a home in the 100 block of Tempie Lane near Covington.

Molden was a caretaker for Eugene McCollough, who was paralyzed. Both wore medical alert devices.

Authorities said there was a connection between the fatal shootings and an incident that took place in Alabama in 2008 and another one in the same state in 2010 that left McCollough paralyzed.

Newton County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Tyrone Oliver told Channel 2 Action News that someone shot at Eugene McCullough in 2008 and again in 2010, during which he was wounded. The spokesman said Brawney McCullough and Henderson “had roles in one or both of the incidents." Neither man, however, was charged. The spokesman did not disclose the roles they allegedly had in the earlier shootings.

No motive also was given Saturday in the deaths of McCullough’s father and aunt. He and Henderson were being held at the Newton County Detention Center.
