The Children and Youth Services Division of the city of Decatur has received a CREATE, local government award for educational excellence, from the Atlanta Regional Commission. All city elementary and middle schools provide after-school tutoring and technology instruction to students in an entirely “green” way with National AfterSchool Association-accredited programs. Physical activity, reading, homework, snack, free art, technology, cultural enrichment, collaborative group gaming, listening centers, nutrition and food projects, and special art, math, science and group projects offer targeted instruction for identified students.

Community partners have collaborated to promote a young generation of healthy and productive life-long learners. The City Schools of Decatur and the City’s Children and Youth Services Division have come together to create a program that enables children to choose healthy, engaging activities after the final school bell rings.
