Decatur has released its Annexation Master Plan and initial estimates show an increase in the total value of the real estate digest to an estimated $3.2 billion, up from the current $2.6 billion.

Most significantly that breaks down to the digest being 76 percent residential and 24 percent commercial, compared to the current split of 85/15, which City Manager Peggy Merriss said has remained fairly consistent for at least 20 years.

“I believe this reflects one of our primary objects [of annexation] in that it diversifies our property digest,” Merriss said Tuesday. A month ago Merriss said she’d be “very happy” if the commercial tax digest increased to 18 percent.
