The Alpharetta City Council has approved the first reading of an ordinance formally calling the Nov. 7 general election to fill three council seats whose four-year terms expire at the end of the year.

Seats up for election are for Posts 1, 2 and 3, currently held by council members Donald Mitchell, Mike Kennedy and Chris Owens, respectively; Owens also is mayor pro tem. The ordinance sets the qualifying dates for those seeking to run for City Council as Aug. 21-23, and the qualifying fee, $450.

The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 10.
