What its backers describe as a new concept in animal hospitals – essentially, an outpatient clinic for pets – has been approved by the Alpharetta City Council for the Windward Commons shopping center.

EasyVet Clinic requested a conditional use permit to allow an “Animal Hospital, Small Animals” business in a 1,600-square-foot space, Suite 2200 in the Kroger-anchored strip shopping center at 12850 Highway 9, staff said in a report to the council.

Staff-recommended conditions included limiting the hours of operation to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Saturday, and limiting the boarding of animals to short-term care incidental to the hospital use.

The clinic will focus on outpatient, preventative and wellness care, the applicant said. It will not offer anesthesia or surgery, radiology, boarding or kenneling, grooming or emergency care.

“This negates concerns about noise, odors, surgical waste gases and overnight boarding,” Dr. Christian Cumberbatch, EasyVet vice president of medical leadership, said in a letter to the city.
