A $263,858 design contract to plan new bridges and roundabouts for Rucker Road was approved by the Alpharetta City Council.
Over the next five months, AECOM Inc. will draw up plans for Rucker Road Corridor Improvements: two new bridges to replace aging, inadequate existing ones over Foe Killer Creek and a tributary; and roundabouts at Fairfax and Charlotte drives to answer residents’ concerns about growing traffic and safety issues.
Estimated construction cost of the new bridges is $616,000. Cost of the roundabouts was not given.
Because the work would mean closures and detours for Rucker between Houze and Broadwell roads for the western bridge, and Charlotte and Harris Road for the eastern bridge, staff recommended that the work be timed for the summers of 2018 and 2019, when Fulton County schools will be on break.
