Investigators believe heavy rain may have been a factor in a single-car wreck that killed an Alpharetta man early Thursday.

Daniel Sloan Peake, 29, died after his Chevrolet Impala careened down an embankment, turned sideways and struck a tree near Macon, Sgt. Sean DeFoe with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office told the AJC. Peake died at the scene of the wreck, located near the intersection of Northside and Rivoli drives, shortly after midnight, DeFoe said.

"That night, we received heavy rains and the roads were slick," DeFoe said. "At this time, we believe it was hard to see."

Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 478-746-9441.
