The Alpharetta City Council has approved an intergovernmental agreement with Johns Creek for the widening of Haynes Bridge Road between Mansell and Old Alabama roads.

The two cities would work together to widen Haynes Bridge to four lanes from two and to install an 8–foot-wide sidewalk, trees, landscaped medians and left-turn lanes where appropriate, according to a staff report to the Alpharetta council. The widening is on the list of projects of the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax approved by Fulton County voters last November.

Under the intergovernmental agreement, Johns Creek will manage the design, engineering and right-of-way acquisition. Design costs and third-party right-of-way costs – such as planning, appraisals, negotiations and deed preparation – will be split 50-50 by the cities.

Once both cities approve the agreement, they will work with a design team to finalize the project’s plans.
