The Alpharetta City Council this week gave final approval to a new downtown master plan, after almost a year of work.

City officials said the document focuses on areas targeted for development/redevelopment the next 10 to 15 years. It sketches our a broad menu of potential uses, including mixed-used commercial districts both south and north of the center of downtown, generally centered on Main Street. It also envisions a mixed-use live/work district on the southeast side of the plan’s boundaries near Old Milton Parkway.

Medium and high-density residential is sketched out for the southern and western sides, as is green space development to the southwest. In the heart of downtown, the plan calls for metered parking and street enhancements.

The plan covers an area bounded by Mayfield Road and Canton Street to the north, South Main Street and Allyson Circle to the south, Wills Road to the west and Westside Parkway to the east.
