The Alpharetta City Council has approved spending nearly $100,000 to buy a prisoner transport van and a pair of police SUVs from Wade Ford.
Terms of a new contract with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office obligates Alpharetta to transport inmates between the jail and Alpharetta City Court, generally at least three times a week, according to a staff report. Rather than detailing one or more patrol cars and officers, it was thought more efficient to acquire a single prisoner van, at a cost of $43,120, for the purpose.
The two SUVs are Ford Police Interceptors – a pursuit-rated version of the V6-equipped Ford Explorer – with a total cost of $56,368. They will replace other vehicles that will be declared surplus.
