The Alpharetta City Council has approved on first reading a $129 million budget for the 2019 fiscal year. The budget maintains the city's $40,000 homestead exemption, which officials said saves homeowners $2.6 million a year, and keeps the millage rate at 5.750 mills.
A second reading and final vote on the budget is expected June 18. Public hearings and first and second readings on the millage rate are set for July 16 and July 23.
To recruit and retain employees, the budget increases the city’s contribution to employee insurance premiums and adds a new, post-employment health care benefit to assist retirees, officials said.
Operating expenditures of the general fund are up 4.9 percent from fiscal 2018, to about $72.59 million. Staffing is set at 445.5 full-time equivalents, with a deputy clerk’s position dropped in the Municipal Court and two positions added to Community Development.
The budget also continues a 3 percent performance-based merit program on April 1, 2019, contingent on a mid-year revenue of revenue trends.
