The convicted killer accused of trying to snatch a 7-year-old girl from a west Georgia Wal-Mart has been indicted for the alleged attempted kidnapping.

Thomas Andrew Woods, of Austell, remains in the Haralson County jail without bond following his grand jury indictment Friday. Haralson County District Attorney Bobby Brooks called a special grand jury session to prevent Woods from being eligible for bond, he previously said.

Under state law, a person who has been incarcerated without bond becomes eligible for bond after 90 days if the case has not been indicted. Woods has been jailed since Feb. 8, when he was arrested after allegedly grabbing Brittney Baxter in the toy aisle of the Bremen Wal-Mart.

Video footage from the store showed a man believed to be Woods pick up the girl and try to cover her mouth, causing the girl to kick and scream. The man in the video then is seen putting the girl down before leaving the store. Store cameras also captured images of the suspect's car, and police tracked it to Tallapoosa, a few miles away.

Woods was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, cruelty to children, simple assault, marijuana possession and driving on a suspended license, a spokeswoman for the Haralson County Jail previously told the AJC.

At the time of his arrest, Woods was on probation following prison time he served for a voluntary manslaughter conviction.

A former Tucker resident, Woods was arrested in October 2004 after using a credit card belonging to an uncle, James Michael Price, who had been reported missing in July of that year, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the AJC.

Woods, then 17, confessed to killing Price and led police to his body, according to a DeKalb court ruling. But the confession was made before the attorney W0ods requested was present, violating his Fifth Amendment rights. He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, a lesser charge than homicide.

Woods was released in October from the Wheeler Correctional Facility, where he had been since April 2007 following the manslaughter conviction in DeKalb County, according to the state Department of Corrections. He was placed on probation after serving out his sentence.

A trial date for Woods has not yet been set.
