The management of Allatoona Lake and Lake Lanier is asking visitors to “pack in and pack out” and take their trash home with them.

“We’re currently operating with limited staff during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency, and we’re doing all we can to minimize potential exposure every way possible,” the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in postings Wednesday to the lakes’ Facebook pages. “By working together, everyone will benefit from a hygienic environment at our recreation area locations that remain accessible.”

The corps also reminded visitors to keep six feet of social distancing from others, and to stay home if they’re sick or having symptoms. No group can have more than 10 persons, and if an area appears congested, people should stay in their vehicles or leave.

While many sites at the two lakes remain open to the public, visitor centers and restrooms are closed. For a list of sites still accessible at Allatoona Lake: https://bit.ly/2XkEr2t
