Alabama man wins $434,000 in Ga. Lottery
A truck driver from Union Springs, Ala., is $434,000 happier that he attended his family reunion in Atlanta over the weekend.
Hiawatha Thrasher, 57, won that amount by matching all five numbers in the Georgia Lottery's Fantasy Five game on July 24. Winning numbers from the July 24 drawing were: 4-5-9-31-37.
“I just happened to be in Atlanta attending a family reunion and stopped at a fuel stop,” he said. “I’m happy, especially to be from Alabama, winning on my way home.”
He bought his winning ticket at a Food Mart on Flat Shoals Road in Union City.
“I called the [Georgia Lottery] hot line, and I started to look at my ticket,” he said. “I haven’t been able to sleep since.”
Thrasher and wife Gloria, anticipate paying off bills and buying a new truck. The couple have eight children and 19 grandchildren.
