Georgia public health officials and the management of Lake Lanier advise the public to beware of unfamiliar animals and watch out for any acting strangely after a raccoon in the area of Sweetwater Drive and Buford Dam Road tested positive for rabies.

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported the incident on Aug. 23, saying in a news release, "The rabies virus is present in Forsyth County wildlife and can be transmitted to domestic animals and humans." To view the release: https://bit.ly/2UafvXW

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said, “Always exercise caution if there is an encounter with wildlife animals or unknown domestic pets.”
