The Gwinnett County Animal Shelter is almost full, so they’re making all adoptions free through Oct. 20.

The shelter is currently housing more than 200 dogs, cats and guinea pigs, according to its website. Dogs typically cost $45 to adopt and cats typically cost $30. There is no fixed guinea pig rate.

The shelter is also encouraging those who cannot commit to adoption to try fostering. When you foster an animal, you are typically taking care of an animal in your home for a fixed period of time in order to make room for more animals at the shelter.

All animals are spayed or neutered before they go home with their new owner. They also receive a medical exam, vaccinations and a microchip.

The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is located at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.
