All lanes of I-75 North have been reopened after a Saturday afternoon crash involving a motorcyclist near Allgood Road in Cobb County brought traffic to a standstill for several hours.

An accident involving an injured motorcyclist on northbound I-75 prompted accident investigators to close all but one lane of traffic between 1:50 p.m. and 4: 15 p.m. Northbound traffic was snarled for six to seven miles behind the wreck, said Marietta Police spokesman Officer David Baldwin.

A landscaping truck that was heading northbound on the interstate near Allgood Road blew a tire, the spokesman said. Two vehicles behind it -- a pickup truck pulling a trailer and a motorcycle -- swerved to miss the landscaping truck. The motorcyclist lost control in doing so and wiped out, Baldwin said.

Another truck that was traveling behind the motorcyclist struck the motorcycle, but not the rider.

The rider, Roy Hendrix, 74, of Jasper, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. He was undergoing surgery Saturday afternoon for "very serious injuries," Baldwin said.
