About 425 people from Seven Springs Church volunteered to help their community on a recent Saturday morning.
The Powder Springs church took part in National Serve Day, a movement about blessing others which is based on the principles in the book Serve Your City, according to www.serveday.com.
At Seven Springs Church, “our vision is to always be outside the walls to reach people in our community,” said Executive Pastor Brandon Miller. “Our message here is twofold. Internally you’ll hear the language of love, acceptance and forgiveness, but the way we frame all of our messages in our work or ministry is hope and healing.
“It is our responsibility to go and be God’s hands and feet,” Miller said.
Senior Pastor Jason Bolin spoke briefly to the volunteers: "What we do today lasts forever."
Fifteen projects lined up not only in their city of Powder Springs or West Cobb, but also in Atlanta, Marietta, Mableton and Austell. Their reach well exceeds their building.
One project extended to first responders (police and fire from Cobb, Marietta and Powder Springs) was a cookout. The grills started up as soon as the groups left for their projects, offering those who serve and protect a free lunch that they could drive by and pick up.
“There was more excitement this year. The buzz in the air with people wanting to serve their communities has grown,” said Services and Events Pastor Gretchen Norman. “It’s amazing to watch, especially the impact and growth within families, in their hearts for others.”
Home Depot donated a $1,000 gift card that helped to purchase items for the schools.
“Love is what changes things … and people,” said Miller. “When we tangibly put our hands to work, that love is seen and felt. Serve Day is just an extension of who we are as a church.”
Their on-going “serve” days are held on the second Saturday each month.
