Commuters who contend daily with traffic on the Perimeter north side will have a new challenge starting next month: A groundbreaking ceremony is set for Nov. 3 to officially begin the four-year, $800 million reconstruction of the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange in Sandy Springs.
The Perimeter Community Improvement Districts sent out “Save the Date” emails this week for the event, at a site to be announced. Gov. Nathan Deal, Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Russell McMurry, and other state, federal and local officials will speak.
Plans call for four miles of improvements along I-285, from a mile west of Roswell Road to just east of Ashford-Dunwoody Road; and five miles of work on Ga. 400, from just south of the Glenridge Connector to the Spalding Drive area.
Existing ramps and bridges in the interchange area will be redone; new flyovers, constructed, and a barrier-separated access road along the two freeways, created. The Abernathy Road interchange on Ga. 400 also will be rebuilt, and the Mount Vernon Road bridge, replaced.
The work will be done by North Perimeter Contractors, a team involving Ferrovial Agroman U.S. Corp., The Louis Berger Group and Neel-Schaffer Inc.\
