Bond was set at $100,000 each Thursday for a mother and daughter facing felony murder charges in the shotgun slaying of a Paulding County man.
Lennis Donovan "Donny" Jones of Dallas was found dead at his home with a gunshot wound to his head over the Labor Day weekend.
Investigators say they were able to gather enough evidence to charge Elgerie Mary Cash, 45, of Stockbridge, and her 20-year-old daughter, Jennifer M. Weathington of Powder Springs. Both women were arrested Dec. 19.
The 45-year-old mother’s and 20-year-old daughter’s defense lawyer, Lee Sexton, acknowledged Thursday that Jones was a family friend, but he would not say for how long.
Sexton said the shooting was accidental and occurred when Jones tried to show the women how to use the gun but didn’t realize it was loaded and that he shot himself.
“This was an accidental shooting. This was caused by the actions of Mr. Jones himself,” Sexton said.
Cash and Weathington remained in the Paulding County lockup Thursday, Sexton said. He expected the two women to be freed on bond on Friday after “multiple family members” put up property to secure their release.
