Thousands raised in fire fund for state senator
A fundraising campaign to help a state senator who lost his home to a fire this week has garnered nearly $8,000 in two days.
The home of Curt Thompson, D-Tucker, was destroyed Monday. Thompson, who was not home at the time of the fire, also lost three cats, fish, a bird and a dog. One dog, ChaChi, survived.
A gofundme campaign had raised $7,810 as of Thursday morning.
Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in a release that the fire appeared to be accidental, and had started in the basement.
