Sandy Springs will honor the city’s Purple Heart recipients next month, when it becomes a Purple Heart City.

“Becoming a designated Purple Heart Medal City allows us to show respect for our veterans,” City Councilman John Paulson said in a statement. Paulson, who is spearheading the effort, is a U.S. Marine veteran.

As part of the program, the city will celebrate Purple Heart Day each Aug. 7 and will put signs in the city.

Veterans and Purple Heart recipients are invited to a dinner and presentation prior to the June 7 city council meeting. Dinner will begin at City Hall at 5 p.m.

To RSVP, call 770-206-1502.
