Judge orders Norcross precinct to stay open late

May 24, 2016

A judge has ordered Gwinnett County to keep a Norcross precinct open late tonight because it opened late this morning.

Superior Court Judge Tom Davis issued the order extending voting hours at Precinct 123, Iglesia Bautista Nuevo Jerusalem Baptist Church, located 5300 Williams Road, Norcross.

The precinct will remain open until 7:42 p.m. to make up for the late start. Voters who are in line at the precinct at closing will still be allowed to vote. All other precincts will close at 7 p.m.

County Communications Director Joe Sorenson attributed the late opening to a mistake by a poll manager.

“Early this morning, the poll manager locked herself out of the facility - keys still inside,” Sorenson said. “The building doesn’t normally open until 9 a.m., so the pastor had to drive to the location to unlock the facility.”
