Want to know more about Scarlett and Rhett? Or the Battle of Atlanta? There’s an app for that.

The Road to Tara Museum in Jonesboro has introduced a web-based smartphone app that gives visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the museum during their self-guided tour.

“People who have contributed to the museum over the years talk about different items on display, ones that either they had worked on personally or knew interesting tales of how certain items came to be housed in the museum, said Danielle Conroy, a spokesperson for the Clayton County Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We already have an in-depth printed museum guide in 11 languages. So we thought this would be a nice addition to tell a different part of the story of the museum.”

To launch the new app, the bureau is giving away a promotional item to the first 50 people who come in and use the app, Conroy said.

The app is free. If visitors don’t have a smartphone they can call a local number and use the keypad to type in the number indicated at various displays in the museum.
