Fulton sues drug companies

Fulton County has sued a group of drug companies, claiming they are responsible for drug abuse that has cost the county millions of dollars.

The lawsuit, filed in Fulton County Superior Court March 10, says the companies knowingly supplied controlled substances to “pill mills” that disbursed drugs based on bogus prescriptions. Named as defendants are Cardinal Health Companies, McKesson Corp. and AmeriSourceBergen Drug Corp.

The lawsuit says the companies violated provisions of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act and the Georgia Pharmacy Practice Act. It the companies’ practices have forced Fulton to spend millions of dollars extra on hospitals, health and social service agencies, courts and the jail.
