A former Gwinnett County Sheriff’s major was sentenced to two years in jail.

Nick Neal was found guilty last week of seven felony counts and one misdemeanor. He was convicted of Sale of Property to Political Subdivisions by an Employee and Theft by Taking after he used his rank to gain access to county officials for personal gain, a statement from the county’s District Attorney’s office said.

Neal owned a wrecker company, which violated the policy of the Sheriff’s department. He also broke state law when he used his influence to sell brake products to the county.

Neal faced 14 charges after the GBI discovered he was a partner in a company that sold more than $11,000 worth of brake supplies to the county, Gwinnett District Attorney Danny Porter said previously.

It is illegal for a county employee to sell more than $800 worth of personal property to the county in a calendar year, he said

Neal was sentenced to two years incarceration and eight years of probation.
