DeKalb solicitor reimburses photo expense

DeKalb Solicitor-General Sherry Boston has reimbursed the county $175 that she spent on a portrait used on brochures, advertisements and her official website.

Boston said in a statement Tuesday she repaid the May 9, 2013, charge with personal funds even though the photo of her is DeKalb County property and was only used for official purposes.

A report by investigators Mike Bowers and Richard Hyde last week listed the $175 spent by Boston among more than $500,000 in questionable expenses by government officials. An invoice indicated the payment was for "airbrush make-up."

Boston announced last month that she is running against District Attorney Robert James in next year's election.

“The charge listed was solely related to the creation of the materials we distribute to the public regarding the function and services of the Solicitor General’s office,” Boston said Tuesday. “… Someone has to lead the efforts at reform by setting the highest standard possible for transparency, openness and full disclosure. I’m committed to doing exactly that.”
