DeKalb County's SPLOST program is officially a year old, and there are early signs of progress.

Money has already been spent on new fire radios and public safety vehicles, and dozens of miles of roadways are being repaved. Construction will begin this summer on a new fire station in the Glenwood area that will be built using SPLOST dollars.

This information and more was shared during an open house on Wednesday, one of three identical events held across DeKalb this week.

The county began collecting a one-percent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax on April 1, 2018. Over a six-year period, the county expects to receive $388 million in revenue for unincorporated areas and another $249 million to share with 12 existing cities.

The open houses were intended to share updates with residents about how SPLOST dollars are being spent, although there are many projects that have yet to be announced. The county also has interactive maps on its website showing where improvements are planned and which ones are already underway.
