It’s been a busy day in Cobb County!

The county hired a new police chief, Mike Register, on Tuesday.

Register, the former police chief of Clayton County, is stepping into a tough job.  He will immediately have to address insufficient staffing and perceptions of racism from some in the community.

Read why one expert said it's "not really about" whether the department is guilty of racial bias in "New Cobb police chief faces challenges over staffing, community relations" (Premium).

Meanwhile, the county voted to pay $11.8 million to the Atlanta Braves for sewer, storm-water and transportation infrastructure around SunTrust Park.

Commissioner Lisa Cupid explains why she voted against the payment in "Cobb pays Braves $11.8M for sewer, storm-water and transportation" (Premium).
