The Atlanta City Council agreed Monday by a 12-3 vote to give the Bobby Jones Golf Course to the state as part of a deal that will help with the sale of Underground Atlanta to a private developer.

Supporters said the deal would help the golf course become a jewel for the city, while those opposed to the land swap decried Atlanta for its willingness to chip away at its history.
