In the wake of protest from a local vendor, the Atlanta City Council is reconsidering the pending purchase of body cameras for the Atlanta Police Department.
The city was poised to purchase more than 1,000 cameras for its force from Taser International, but Decatur-based Utility Inc. has decried the procurement process as unfair because it wasn’t opened up to others.
The council voted on Monday to refer legislation regarding the purchase back to its public safety committee for review. Last week, Mayor Kasim Reed’s administration indicated it is also reconsidering the use of a special procurement process.
