Atlanta Public Schools, along with various other systems, has its share of schools that could fall under state control under a proposal that Georgia voters will consider on this November's ballot. But there are many success stories in the district, too. The 10 elementary schools shown below are examples of the district's top performers based on their three-year averages on the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), a kind of school report card authored by the Georgia Department of Education.

What's the Opportunity School District?

Introduced in the 2015 Legislative Session, Governor Nathan Deal’s plan would create a statewide school district and give his office broad new powers to take over failing schools. It would for the first time ever create a statewide “Opportunity School District” to oversee the program — led by a superintendent who would report directly to the governor and not the state education department. Learn more about Opportunity School Districts here.

Schools that earned an "F" rating on the CCRPI (below 60) for a minimum of three consecutive years are eligible for state takeover under Gov. Deal's proposal.
